Day 26:
Feeling under the weather today so got little done. Finished making shop signs.
Day 21:
Has it been 3 weeks already?
I’m getting a little sick of working on sprites so I decided to switch over to tiles today to change things up. First up is a building. RTP buildings are kind of boring and blocky, so I’m trying to make something that looks more like a house. This isn’t the full size of the building, it will be extended with the tiles.
Day 19:
Working on sprites as usual. Finally moved onto characters I have not touched before so I get to design their appearances and outfits. Including what I’ve worked on in the past, that’s 14 down and 50 to go.
Man, why did I just count? Now I feel sad that I’m nowhere close to finished simple design sprite sketches. This is supposed to be the quick part… adding shading, details, and animations will take way longer.
I’ve still been working every day on this even though I haven’t been posting. Decided I should at least have something to show off instead of posting every detail of the design process.
Day 16:
Developing characters and working on sprites. I redid the down animation of Forest Dews, one of the most common type of enemies.
Day 14:
Lets look at some other characters!
Tal’s younger sister and a major antagonist. She disappeared twelve years ago and hasn’t been seen since. Her agenda seems to oppose what the heroes are trying to do. Could she have something to do with the recent darkness and decaying that has been occurring in the surrounding lands? Her companions are usually the ones that will fight for her.
Lilly’s grandfather and owner of the local handyman shop. He spends most of his time fixing and making various machines and gadgets, and will help create items for Tal and his friends to aid them on their quest. Lilly has taken a major interest in his work.
One of Audrey’s companions and a main antagonist. She’s usually seen with Dustin and Chenim. Although she speaks with little emotion and remains quite stoic at times, she actually has a very psychotic mind and twisted sense of humor. Like most faeries, she excels at using magic but she does carry a large hammer into battle as well.
Day 13:
Not really related to my game but meh. I did work a bit on writing about characters and drawing their sprites.
Day 11 & 12:
Not much to say or show. Mostly fixing up a few things on newer sprites and starting to redo old characters.
Day 10:
Working on Lilly’s battler’s standing animation. Right now all that’s done is her head. I keep thinking she looks a bit like a monkey. It’s not just me is it? Decided to post a side-by-side comparison with the original Melon Head base.
Speaking of comparisons, I never did post up the new sprites I’ve been working on for the main characters. After making the game Painted Red, I decided to go back and remake the sprites for this game. The old sprites were a bit more complex and difficult to animate, where as Adelyn was much easier to make frames for due to her simple design. Plus they had no necks.
Yviar’s sprite was much newer than the other three characters, so his sprite was barely updated… mostly just adjusting the palette and fixing a few pixels. Tal’s palette was really cut down and Phanoire’s outfit changed to look more like one of her older designs.
